We are so blessed in our country to have so much freedom. Sometimes it is blended into the very fabric of our being and we forget that this was not always the case…

Many places around the world today do not have our level of individual freedom in their daily lives. Speaking and communications are heavily monitored or censored. Actions are limited. Basic human rights may not exist or be permitted.

We are so very lucky – but this is not really an instance of luck. It is an instance of sacrifice by our forefathers and also those who currently serve to protect and defend us. For the past 10 years, I had the honor of knowing Rocket Recon, a VietNam vet who exemplified honor, daring, bravery, and ingenuity during his years of service in the Marines. Due to his sacrifice and duties while active, he impacted many lives in multiple ways. His battle on earth recently came to a close.

There are many others like Rocket Recon with stories untold. They are truly amazing stories from truly amazing people. Some may wish to keep their stories private, while others may enjoy sharing them. Take a moment to thank a vet or active duty person for their service and sacrifice. Freedom is not truly free – it is a gift from those who are altruistic and determined to preserve it … and us!

Freedom is a gift
Rarely is it free
Existing from sacrifice
Entirely altruistic – hidden existentially
Daring bravery unspoken
Overt to almost none
Many receive this gift from the act of one

Innocence is protected
Showing beauty in our world

Naivety projected
Over plans unseen, unheard
Tyranny is rejected

Freedom is a gift
Rarely is it FREE
Evolved from sacrifice
Enduring for you and me.
